Gold Coast Vintage Condo

Moving from a brownstone in Andersonville to a condo in the Gold Coast — with three kiddos in tow — is a lifestyle change to say the least. But this Chicago family wanted to be in the heart of it all for their next chapter—that is, as long as they could be comfortable within a tighter footprint. Step 1: Find a generous duplex in a Beaux-Arts building with mad potential. Step 2: Enlist F&S to bring the vision to make it turnkey and chic. Pseudo-renovated upon approach, capturing space became a top priority, including turning the maid’s quarters into a proper bedroom and the ballroom — yes, ballroom — into the primary suite. As for colors and patterns, it was no holds barred. The living room is an elegant study in indigo, violet and lavender. And for the breakfast room, we picked a Paul Smith stripe. It would take a strong Mid-century thread to tie it all together — and give this family a new, personality-packed lease on life.

In the primary bedroom, a wall of ebonized panelling grounds an all-white color scheme. For the four-poster bed, we powder-coated the frame in a bright white before upholstering the headboard with a slate boucle.
