River North Condo

It’s a familiar story: Couple lives in the city, loves it, but relocates to the suburbs when they have kids — and then moves right back again once they become empty nesters. For their new chapter, our second project with this dynamic duo, steve + filip design was enlisted to turn a white-washed, three-bedroom loft in River North into a polished, high-functioning home with heart and soul. Our scope included creative space planning, custom millwork and finishes, and full decor throughout. Coming up with artful ways to display tokens from their life and travels — a vase from Cambodia here, a vintage lava lamp there — was a clutch component, too. In the living room, for example, we designed a seamless media cabinet with open shelving and a builtin dry bar, condensed a coffee table to fit the space, and reupholstered a pair of club chairs in a Kuba cloth-print. Our favorite moment, however, has to be the entry, where a landscape wallcovering and a commissioned sculpture from The Golden Triangle make quite the statement. Can you dig it?

For the den, we adopted a cocooning palette of warm chocolates that’s punctuated by a boxy recliner that was upholstered in a rust-colored, chenille fabric. Here, dramatic sconces and a vintage bookcase with asymmetrical shelves tie the room together.
